How to make decorative balls from plastic cord or rope

This guide will show you how use plastic cords or ropes to make pretty decorative balls. They can be used to fill bowls, trays, glass vases and containers.

Difficulty level: Beginners

Instructions:

Materials:
Plastic cord or rope
Glue that adheres plastic
Ball
Clothespin
2 rubber bands
Tooth pick
Matches or cigarette lighter
Scissors

Fold the end of the plastic cord and glue it together. Hold it in place with a clothspin until the glue has dried completely.

Wind the chord and hold it in place with the clothespin.

Glue the wound cord to the ball.
Let the glue dry completely.

Glue and wind a few rounds at a time.
If you are using glue that hurts your fingers push the cord in place with the end of the clothes pin.

Glue and wind the cord around the ball. Hold in place with the rubber bands while the glue dries.

Continue gluing until you get to the end

Cut off the extra.
There will be little strings sticking up. Hold the flame from a cigarette lighter or match near the ends for only 1 or 2 seconds - just enough to melt but not burn the ends.

Quickly press the ends in place with the tooth pick

Your decorative ball is ready. Have fun making lots more and decorating.
