How to cover books and help your children find the subjects they need easily

By choosing a color for each subject you can make it easy for your child to find what he or she needs.
This guide will show you how to cover books and color code them.

Difficulty level: Beginners

Instructions:

Materials:
Paper – wrapping paper, from a paper bag or scrap paper
Colored paper – a different color for each subject
Tape
Scissors
Paper glue
Books to cover

Let your child decide what color each subject should be.

Cut a piece of colored paper about 1 ½ inches longer than the height of the book and a little less the half the width.

Place the paper for wrapping the book with the design side facing down

Make a fold at the bottom of the paper
Place the book on the folded edge

Bring the top edge of the paper up. Run your finger back and forth along the edge of the book closest to the table to make a crease.

Remove the book and use the crease mark to fold the top edge down

Place the book a little to the right of the center of the paper.

Bring the left side of the paper over the top of the book.

Cut the end to match the one underneath.

Run your fingers up and down along the side of the book to pinch a crease on the top edge and also the bottom edge.

Remove the paper from the book.

Glue the colored paper to the middle.

Flip the paper over and refold the top and bottom folds

Place the book in the middle and bring the left edge of the paper up over the edge of the book to the inside

Put a piece of tape at the top and at the bottom

Remove the book and slip the left side of the cover into the pocket

Close the book and bring the right side of the paper over the top
Then fold it over the edge of the book to the inside

Insert the right edge of the book cover into the pocket

Close the cover and put a piece of tape on the top and bottom

If you don't have a lot of paper or want to make each side a different design:

Cut the colored paper you choose for the subject ( shown in step 2)
and cut 2 pieces big enough to cover a side of the book with enough to fold over the edge

Glue them together and cover the book as shown in step 2 – 14 just leave out step 8

You can use any combinations of papers as long as the part covering the binding area is the color for the subject.

Next time your child has to find a math book and a notebook plus anything else related to math he or she will be able to spot it quickly by the color.

Tips

You can make a calendar and put circles of the color for each subject they have to bring to school that day.
