How to make a hexagon of any size without special tools

This guide will show you how easy it is to make a hexagon as small or as large as you need.

Difficulty level: Beginners

Instructions:

Materials:
Cardboard
Pen
2 pins – you can use a pointy nail if you do not have pins
A straight edge – it can be a piece of paper or a ruler

Pentagons are very easy to draw because the sides are the same length as the radius.

Cut a strip of cardboard.
Push the points of the 2 pins into the strip. The distance between them will be the length of the sides

Remove 1 pin
Insert the remaining pin in about the center of the cardboard
Put the pen point in the hole made by the removed pin and rotate it around to draw a circle.

Remove the pen and put a pin through the hole and through the cardboard underneath it.
*Don’t worry it will be on the line of the circle.

Remove the pin from the center

Put the pen point through the hole it was in.
Rotate the cardboard strip until it reaches the line of the circle and make a mark there

Rotate the strip until it reaches the bottom of the circle and mark it there

Remove the strip
Push a pin through the point the pen marked at the bottom of the circle
Remove the pin

Put the pin through a hole in the strip and into the hole in the cardboard underneath
Put the point of the pen in the second hole, rotate the strip and make a mark where it comes to the circle

Remove the cardboard strip
Push the pin in the mark on the circle you just made and remove it.

Put a pin through a hole on the strip and the hole you just made in the cardboard
Put the pen point in the second hole, rotate the strip and mark where it comes to the circle.

Remove the strip, make a hole in the mark on the circle you just made

Put a pin through a hole in the strip and into the hole you just made in the circle
Put the pen in the second hole and rotate to mark the circle.
You now have 6 marks on the circle of equal distance
Remove the strip

Use a straight edge to draw lines connecting the pen marks on the circle

Result
You now have a hexagon

Cut out the hexagon to use as it is or for a template to make as many as you need.

Tips

The same method is used to make extremely large hexagons such as those used for buildings. Instead of using a cardboard strip, a string is tied to 2 stakes
