How to make a shadow box, a 3d frame, from paper or cardboard

This guide will show you how to make a shadow box, a frame with depth, from paper or cardboard. It can be used to hang light weight three dimensional objects.

Difficulty level: Advanced

Instructions:

Materials:
1 square piece of paper
scissors
paper glue
pen
This guide shows how to fold and cut paper. The same method can be used for light cardboard.

Bring the bottom of the paper up to the top as if you were going to fold it in half. Do not crease, only pinch the side to mark the halfway point.

Bring the bottom edge up to the halfway point you just made and pinch to mark the ¼ way point.

Fold up the bottom edge to the quarter point you just made.
Unfold.

Fold up the bottom edge to the crease you just made.

Fold up over the edge of the flap 3 times
unfold

The result should be 4 crease lines

Repeat steps 2 to 6 for the other 3 sides of the paper

Cut out a 4 by 4 squares at each corner

Result

Take one of the corner pieces you just cut off and cut out 1 square from it.
You will use this to measure with.

Take the measuring square and place it at the outer edges of the second row from the bottom and mark the inner edges with a pen.

Repeat on the top of the paper. Do not mark the sides of the paper.

Make a line from the outer corner of the square above and below the lines you made in the last step
