Materials:
Empty plastic bottle
Scissors
Knife
Heat source such as a hairdryer or candle

Remove the sticker, wash and dry the plastic bottle

Saw your knife back and forth along the top of the straight area of the bottle until it slices an opening

Continue cutting with the knife or use a scissor to cut around where the straight area begins.

Begin to cut about ¼ inch along the edge

Continue cutting one continuous strip until you get to the end of the straight area

Result

Fold the strip in half

Twist the strip and run it back and forth by a heat source.

If you are using a hairdryer you can hook the folded end onto something, such as a door knob, use one hand to twist and the other to hold the dryer- or you can get a friend to hold it for you

In this picture a candle was used as a heat source.

Whatever the heat source is, the method is the same
Move the wire back and forth and twist.

The more you twist the tighter it gets.

Here is an example of a loosely twisted ¼ inch thick strip

When you have finished twisting and heating cut off the untwisted ends (unless you can find a use for them in your craft project).

Experiment with different width strips, different heat sources and different number of times you twist the strips.

There are many things you can do with this free source of plastic wire.
You can use them for stiff or curved flower stems, put beads on them, melt the ends together to make bracelets, necklaces and napkin rings.
