How to make an Icosahedron from circles

This guide will show you how easy it is to make this beautiful polyhedron without needing a printer or any special tools.

Difficulty level: Beginners

Instructions:

Materials:
Object to trace circles
Pen
Scissors
Paper glue
Strong scrap paper
2 Push pins
Cardboard box top

Trace the outline of the circular object on the scrap paper.
Cut out the circle

Fold the circle in half
Fold it in half again to make a quarter circle

Mark the top and bottom of the straight edge of the quarter circle on a strip of stiff paper

Use a push pin to punch a hole through the 2 marks you just made

Unfold the scrap circle and put it on the cardboard box lid.
A shoe box lid was used for this guide.

Place a push pin about a quarter of the way down the crease to hold it in place

Punch a hole with the second push pin exactly at the bottom of the crease line.

Push the push pin through the bottom hole on the strip of paper and into the hole you made on the box top.

Place the point of your pen through the top hole and pivot it around to make an arc

Remove the circle

Use the straight edge of the paper strip to make a line connecting the 2 ends of the arc

Draw a line from each end of the arc to the top of the fold
The result will be an equilateral triangle

Use the lines to cut out the triangle

Use the same object to trace 20 circles on paper and cut them out.
A pretty green advertisement found hanging on my door handle was used for this guide

Place the triangle shape you cut out on a circle so that all the points touch the edges
Trace the outline of the triangle
Make folds along the lines

Do this for all 20 circles

Glue the folded edges of 5 triangles together as shown in the picture
